Synaisthesis: An Immersive Sound and Light Experience at UVA’s Contemplative Sciences Center
Located in the Conservatory on the fourth floor of the Contemplative Commons Studio 4B
Hours: Mon-Fri 9am-2pm
I’m grateful to be part of Synaisthesis, an immersive installation at the Conservatory created in collaboration with R. Lee Kennedy, David Acunzo, and Matthew Burtner.
The piece brings together sound, light, and spatial experience through the standing-wave vibrations of nine crystal alchemy sound bowls. These recordings were transformed into a layered soundscape, with binaural beating patterns and synchronized lighting mapped throughout the space to create an environment that feels both meditative and alive.
Visitors are invited to enter the installation slowly. Come sit, meditate, or simply listen. Let the soundscape move around you, notice the shifts in light and color, and experience how sound can become something you feel in the body as much as hear in the room.
